| Welcome to Manjimup
Manjimup is just 307 km from Perth, in the beautiful south west corner of Western Australia - a land of tall timbers, abundant fresh water, rich soils and undulating scenery.
Early settlers rejoiced in the potential wealth of the land and created their future with the axe, plough and the sweat of their brows. This pioneer history has created the vibrant cultures that are so much a part of Manjimup today.
Manjimup has a population of around 5,000 and is the regional centre for the Warren and Blackwood Valleys, providing all the facilities you would expect, including an airport.
Timber and heritage
Timber is synonymous with Manjimup and its effect on the area is recorded with pride, combined with educational insights, at the Timber Park and Museum complex, the King Jarrah, One Tree Bridge and more.
Indulge in our many forest walks and experience for yourself the wonder of the tall tree country with its majestic Karri and Jarrah.
Feature events
Each year, Manjimup hosts the internationally renowned Motocross 15000, the Cherry Harmony Festival and the J B Ipsen Memorial Golf Tournament.
Whether you are from Western Australia, inter-state or overseas, make sure you visit this uniquely beautiful part of our State.
Better still, stay for a few days and sample the delights of Manjimup and the Southern Forests.
Manjimup Visitor Centre
The Visitor Centre is centrally located in Manjin Park and open 7 days, with friendly staff who will always have time to assist you with information and accommodation bookings to ensure your visit to Manjimup is interesting and enjoyable.
Thank you to Roy and his volunteers for all their support they give to the Cherry Festival |

Our aim is to be the most comprehensive festival portal around, promoting festivals large and small, those happening in laneways and buildings and fields, under trees, online and everywhere in between.
We think festivals are pretty special ways to experience art and performance, music, food, wine, design, community and culture, new media and film and the multitude of other types of festivals out there. So get out there and be a patron, happy hunting...
The australianfestivalguide.com website originated as a way of promoting not just the world-class festivals that happen throughout the country but as a recognition of the important contribution festivals make to the Australian cultural landscape.
We hope that by providing a centralised festival information service that the searching process is simplified and leads to greater awareness of the many inspiring festivals to be found within Australia.
The website, designed as a portal, offers links to every kind of festival imaginable. Online visitors can search by festival date, state and type and this information, thanks to the wonderful world of the web is available 24/7 to anyone, anytime, with access to the Net.
We like to think that what we have created is really, a perfect example of the win-win scenario. Festival patrons find the information they need faster and festival promoters get extended marketing reach.
The added bonus being the tangible economic, social, and cultural benefits experienced in regions where festivals take place.
What it all boils down to of course is the promotion of a set of experiences – humanity baring itself through the various art forms. The festival format is the ideal platform for that process to play out and it is a dedication to that concept which was the driving force behind the creation of our guide. We hope you enjoy it.

| A Brief HistoryThe name Manjimup was derived from the aboriginal word "Manjin" – a special edible reed and "up" meaning meeting place.
The area was first settled in 1856 near the present town site of Manjimup. The area has strong links with the timber industry and other industries include horticulture, agriculture, viticulture, dairying, aquaculture and tourism.
The Shire area was first included in the Plantagenet Wellington and Sussex Road Districts in 1871. Later the area was included in the Nelson Road Board District.
The Warren Road District was formed on 3 July 1908 and consisted of 7 elected members. In June 1925, the Warren Road District name was changed to the Manjimup Road District. The number of members was changed to 9, then in 1928 to 10 and then 13 in 1953. From May 2003 elected member numbers were reduced to 11.
With the enactment of the Local Government Act 1960, the Manjimup Road District name was changed to the Shire of Manjimup effective from 1 July 1961.
